Every Tuesday · Victor Vieira-Branco Trio Live!

What Victor and his compatriots represent is a whole new chapter in Philly's long history of groundbreaking jazz music coming out of tiny neighborhood club. This is improvised, of-the-moment music, but stop by on a Tuesday night, and you'll also see — it's for the ages. And there's a growing community around these cats who agree!

Tuesday nights at 48 Record Bar have become a popular stop for both sets since the Victor Viera-Branco Trio first launched its residency in early December. Today, those wishing to attend either set are on a first-come-first-served basis with complimentary cover/admission.

"While improvisation always plays an essential role in my music, it is often amidst compositional structures surrounding it,” said Victor Viera-Branco. "One parameter regarding the approach at 48 Record Bar is that the music be 100% improvised. It is not a jam, the goal is not to demonstrate what you are capable of doing on your instrument, the goal is to compose on the spot in response to the energy in the room. We are in dialogue with those who are present each night. The one directive I have given the band is that if something feels good, lean into it, and push it as far as it can go. That has always been of high interest to me; taking things as far as they can go.”
